New Teachers
"Studies have routinely shown a high attrition rate among teachers in their first five years of teaching (Gray & Taie, 2015; Hafner & Owings, 1991; Ingersoll, 2003)...this trend is also troubling due to evidence that teachers improve dramatically in their first three to five years of teaching (Attebery, Loeb, & Wychoff, 2015)." (Weins, Chou, Vallett, & Beck, 2019).
New teachers can be new to the profession, both as their first career or as a career change. They can be new to a district or a school. We can even describe teachers as "new" when they change grade levels. Regardless of how "new" is categorized, new teachers need support.
But not all new teachers need the same support.
Very often, new teachers are provided with support structures during the first one to three years of their career. However, because we are not meeting their individual needs, we are not aiding in their growth and retention.
Ask Yourself:
How can you provide the best support in to your new teachers?
Do you have the time to provide that support?
Do you have the people to provide that support?
Do you have the resources to provide that support?
Regardless of how you answered,
I can help.

I worked with a small group of teachers to develop, submit, and ultimately present on ideas at ISTE 2017. Four of the five of us, joined together for a photo op before the conference officially began.

I collaborated with Joelle to develop her proposal at ISTE 2017.
